4) Make every day an opportunity to learn a new word or phrase.

Every day you will encounter a useful object for which you will not know the Spanish word. As this occurs to you, write down the word in English and go look up the word in an online dictionary or other resource. If you do this once a day, at the end of the year you will have increased your vocabulary by 365 words. In my experience, these words will stay with you in a more meaningful way because you have seen how you use them in your daily life.
